Fully Welded Ball Valves

BRITVAL fully welded ball valves are primarily used in gas transmission and distribution pipelines (midstream) and are ideal for underground or buried installations. Designed for durability and reliable operation, these valves feature a fixed ball with floating seat rings that can move along the valve axis. Side loads generated by pressure on the ball are absorbed by precision bearings, ensuring smooth operation even under high-pressure conditions.

At low pressures, the seat-to-ball contact is maintained by Belleville springs, providing initial sealing. As system pressure increases, the fluid itself pushes the seat rings firmly against the ball, enhancing the seal and ensuring dependable shut-off. This design guarantees consistent upstream sealing performance across varying pressure ranges.

The BRITVAL fully welded valve includes an automatic internal pressure relief feature. If body cavity pressure exceeds the downstream line pressure by approximately 200 psi, the downstream seat automatically lifts, allowing excess pressure to safely relieve into the pipeline. This prevents dangerous pressure buildup and enhances operational safety.

Automatic Internal Pressure Relief
Rotating Seat Rings for Extended Life

For valves 14” (350 mm) and larger, the exclusive rotating seat feature is standard. Each time the valve is closed, the seats rotate approximately 15 degrees, exposing a new pinch point. This ensures even wear distribution and extends the service life of the valve, maintaining reliable performance over long-term operation.

Structure and Components:

Fully welded ball valves have a structure similar to conventional ball valves, but with a fully welded body construction that eliminates bolted joints. In these valves, the body is welded into a single solid unit, providing enhanced strength and zero external leakage paths.

Key components include the fully welded valve body, which ensures structural integrity for underground or buried installations; the ball and seat assembly, which provide reliable shut-off; the stem, which transmits torque from the actuator or handle; and high-performance seals and packing, which prevent leakage.
